How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?
No. For such a small word it carries a large impact. We often associate it with finality. To give up, to sacrifice, to lose, to quit, to withhold, an ending. But sometimes, when we say no, we’re also saying yes. To other possibilities, to a new path, to liberation, to empowerment, to boundries, a beginning.
No can be a powerful statement of acceptance and change. Over the past year I found myself saying no to many things that would have interfered with my goals. I said no to repeating past patterns, I said no to giving up on myself and those I care about. I said no to holding back my true self. In doing so, I said yes to creating a new life for myself and embracing the change required to close one chapter of my life and begin a new one.
This new chapter, while it still holds the memory of the last, is full of possibilities unavailable to me in the previous ones. So, don’t let the uncertainty of saying no to things that interfere with the life you want. Rather than live a life with the fear of missing out, live a life of choosing what’s best for you at that time and knowing that while you might be missing out now, what you stand to find may be greater. The fear of missing out can often paralyze us, keeping us tethered to paths that no longer serve us. This perspective shifts this narrative, suggesting that by consciously choosing what aligns with our well-being, we are not simply missing out, but rather making space for something potentially even more fulfilling. It’s not merely a negation, but a powerful act of self-creation. It’s as if each “no” you choose becomes a brushstroke, carefully defining the contours of the new life you are bringing into being.
* I’ve decided to engage in the prompts that greet me when I open my blog dashboard. But as a way to honor the oddthentic nature of my blog, Im not going to edit these. There will be one draft. They will be the raw, unscripted reflections of my mind. I hope you enjoy.*
